ALEXANDRIA MAILLOT SOMEONE TO KEEP YOU WARM

Benevolence, and it’s truly a beauty. The Canadian musician dissects personal life experiences in her self-styled “swoon rock” songs, which shift through phases of dream-pop, electro-doom and alt-rock formations. The single of choice for our List Picks is ‘Someone To Keep You Warm’. Pitching in at just over two minutes, this track feels so much bigger than. The opening lines present a hopelessly romantic verse of floating, church-like synths and Maillot’s beautiful pop vocals. The moment that sets this track apart however is the line, “the only thing that’s missing”, shifts from delicate indie-pop to apocalyptic bass, war-like beats and fractured vocals for that significant phrase, “someone to keep you warm.” Throughout the composition, we’re led through this push and pull; through light and dark; from slow dance at the prom to crunking in basement. ‘Someone To Keep You Warm’ is a stunner that leaves you breathless.
